Thomas’ Story

Happy Children’s Hospitals Week! This week, we’re celebrating the miracles that happen every day at #HurleyChildrensHospital thanks to the dedicated medical team, child life specialists, support staff, miracle families and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partners that support our local CMN hospital.

Thomas Beldyga was born at 27 weeks weighing 2 lbs, 15 oz. From day one, the NICU team (especially Jennifer and Kristy) helped ensure his parents had all the tools and confidence they needed to help him grow and thrive.

Dr. Monga was there for every question and concern the Beldyga family had, and they marveled at the specialists who were able to keep coordination of his care. It is this hands-on, coordinated approach that was instrumental in his developmental success.

Today, at 4-years-old, Thomas has caught up in every way. He graduated from the Hurley NICU in June 2020, and was referred to the Hurley Pediatric Development Clinic. He was turned over to routine pediatrician visits just before he turned three. Thomas worked hand in hand with Early On programs until he started pre-school.

When Thomas isn’t riding his dirt bike at the race track with his dad, playing sports with his older siblings, or playing with his family pets, he can be found snuggling up to his mom.

Thomas “Tuff” Beldyga is one amazing young man. His mom, Megan says, “We owe a debt of gratitude to the staff at Hurley NICU for helping us bring our baby home safely!”
