Our Hearts are Racing!

Our hearts are racing, thinking about what a great event Quaal Racing has put on for Hurley Children’s Hospital.

$5,075 was raised in the 2nd annual Racing for Miracles at Shepard’s Indoor Speedway in Owosso. Nearly 100 competitors raced go-karts in teams of four. Concessions, a silent auction and raffle also gave fans a way to contribute.

Scott, Sarah and Dale Quaal spearheaded the event after a personal experience with Hurley. They attended a similar fundraiser and knew they could pull off an event of their own. Miracle child Rowan Neumann shared his story with the crowd, letting everyone see first hand how their donations help heal local children. Rowan is cancer free after years of treatment at Hurley. He waved the green flag at them event and it was great for the Quaals to include him.

Something great happened on the track – the team sponsored by Hurley Foundation won the race. From start to finish, everything about the event was special. Brooklyn Sondgeroth, Assistant Director for Children’s Miracle Network Programs, says, “The 2nd annual Racing for Miracles event benefiting child life music programs at Hurley Children’s Hospital was a huge success! The initiative, organization and enthusiasm from the Quaal Racing team has impressed me since day one. Scott, Sarah and Dale have made such a big difference in the lives of local children by hosting this event for the past two years, and all of us at Hurley Children’s Hospital are so grateful. 2020 marks our 30th year as a Children’s Miracle Network hospital, and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick it off!”

The money raised at Racing For Miracles will benefit music therapy at Hurley Children’s Hospital. The therapy is fun for young patients, it keeps them occupied during long stays. It can also aid in their healing without them even realizing it. It’s one of the tools Child Life uses to help children get better, faster. While we look forward to next year’s even bigger and better event, see for yourself in this video how music therapy is helping Hurley pediatric patients and how a fun day out with your family can have an impact on a child trying to heal. Thank-you Quaal Racing.
