We Have a Heart for Kids

Hurley Children’s Hospital is proud of its partnerships, bringing awareness and much needed testing and equipment, to protect kids’ hearts in our community.

Pediatric patients are all smiles getting their Heart Hero Bags from London Strong Foundation. What a great way to make their Hurley experience positive and to honor the memory of London Eisenbeis.

10 year old London passed away from an undetected heart rhythm condition called long QT syndrome. Since her passing, her family has been bringing awareness to heart conditions and increasing chance of survival by emphasizing the importance of CPR/AED.

London Strong is teaming up with Hurley Foundation to provide Heart Hero bags to pediatric heart patients at Hurley Children’s Hospital and clinics. The bags are being filled with things 10 year old London loved as well as things that will make hospital visits special for local kids, from toddlers to teens.

Hurley is proud to team up with Thomas Smith Memorial Foundation. Did you know each year, more than 3,000 children die from sudden cardiac arrest? Thomas Smith was a healthy, active Flushing High School football player when he collapsed and died. His family now spearheads Teen Heart screening events.

At Flushing Middle School, Hurley’s medical team saw more than 170 local students, providing them ECGs/EKS and even going a step further, giving some of the kids echo-cardiograms to check their hearts. These tests can find the majority of heart conditions. Most insurance companies will not cover the tests, which can average $1500 out of pocket. We provide the tests for free at our Teen Heart events.

We love to work with these amazing partners/families to prevent heart related deaths in our local kids. #HurleyCares
