Miracle Monday: Tanaya Nelson

MIRACLE MONDAY – TANAYA NELSON

Tanaya (aka Nay Nay) Nelson was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma in June, 2002. The cancerous tumor was so big it pressed on her organs including her kidneys.

She began chemotherapy at Hurley right away and did well for four months. By the time they were ready to surgically remove the tumor, it was little more than scar tissue. Then, Nay Nay underwent a stem cell transplant at Detroit Children’s Hospital. They used her own young, immature, stem cells. It worked!

Nay Nay and her family moved to Ohio where she graduated from high school and now attends college. Her dream? She wants to work in pediatric oncology as a social worker.
