Speedway Donates Halloween Treats to Hurley Kids

In many ways it feels like the year 2020 has been full of tricks, but our friends at Speedway weren’t going to let this Halloween pass by without providing some treats to the kids at Hurley Children’s Hospital. From October 8-10th, Speedway team members asked their customers to consider donating candy at the register to their local CMN Hospital, Hurley Children’s Hospital, and donate they DID.

In total, 31 bins of candy from three Speedway districts were delivered to Hurley Children’s Hospital to help make this Halloween a little more normal for hospitalized children. The candy was sorted by the team at the Hurley Foundation, then packaged up and distributed by the Hurley Child Life Department. Initially, the Child Life team expected enough candy for admitted Pediatric and Intensive Care patients to enjoy on Halloween night. But, in typical Speedway fashion, that expected quantity was nearly tripled; providing candy for not only admitted pediatric patients, but also enough for pediatric oncology patients, hemophilia, sickle cell, and infusion clinic patients, pediatric neurology and respiratory department patients, as well as enough for the young patients who might find themselves in urgent care or the pediatric emergency room in the coming days.

“If you work for Speedway, or are a customer who purchased candy from Speedway and donated back to Hurley pediatric patients, please accept our sincerest gratitude,” says Director of Child Life Services, Laura Parcels.

Speedway’s partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals began in 1991 and has since raised more than $121 million for the children’s charity through various fundraising activities. All of us at Hurley Children’s Hospital feel so grateful to have the employees and customers of Speedway in our corner, helping make a difference in the lives of children and families across mid-Michigan.
