Miracle Monday – Weston Morse

Four-year-old Weston Morse was playing baseball recently when his dog excitedly started chasing the ball. Unfortunately, Wes became entangled in the dog’s chain and his feet were swept out from under him. He fell backwards and his head bounced off the concrete. His mom, Chloe is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for a local ambulance company. When she got home from work that night she knew something was wrong. Chloe knew that when it comes to kids’ health, you need to come to Hurley. That Monday evening Wes was seen in the Pediatric Emergency Department. A CT Scan revealed a depressed skull fracture and air pocket near the fracture. Wes was admitted to Hurley’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He was monitored, placed on medicine, and was followed by the neurosurgeon.

The highlight of each day for Wes was the visit from a Child Life Specialist. His face lit up when she came in to share stories and entertain him. His mom appreciated the visits as well. By Thursday, Wes was ready to be discharged with instructions to see the neurosurgeon in three months. Reflecting on this experience Chloe remarked,
“It’s just so surreal how quickly an accident like this can happen. I see so many things in my line of work. I’m grateful that Hurley is here for our kids.”
The Morse family is familiar with Hurley Pediatrics. When their daughter was 8 years old, she was admitted to the PICU with Kawasaki Disease. Weston was admitted to the PICU for three days shortly after birth due to breathing issues. We will always be there for the Morse family and your family too!
