Surprise Donation

Hurley Children’s Hospital partnered with several local credit unions to launch the #SantaCares Campaign during the holidays in 2019. In a surprise reveal, CO-OP Financial Services has announced a $10,000 donation towards this effort. CO-OP Financial Services (www.co-opfs.org) is a payment and financial technology company whose mission is ensuring the success of the credit union movement.

“We were so excited to hear that Co-Op Financial Services came through with a $10,000 match for what we had raised through our #SantaCares campaign,” said Karen Church, Elga Credit Union CEO and Chairman of the Michigan Credit Union League Board of Directors. “I love that even though we have a competitive financial market today, credit unions can still come together and work together for a wonderful cause that helps the community and those dear to our hearts, the children in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals program here at Hurley.”

Prior to the CO-OP donation, the #SantaCares campaign had raised $40,418. This included money raised by Dort Financial Credit Union, ELGA Credit Union, Financial Plus Credit Union and Sovita Credit Union. Community members also donated to the #SantaCares site on the Hurley Medical Center Facebook page.  In addition, $10,000 was donated by The Sheppy Dog Fund, Dr. Alan Klein – Advisor. Dr. Klein is a Grand Blanc Pediatric Dentist who is on staff at Hurley Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to the CO-OP Financial Services donation, a total of $50,418 was raised for this area’s local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. “CO-OP congratulates our four client credit unions and the other organizations and community members that made this campaign a success,” said Joe Franklin, Vice President of Experiential Marketing and Engagement, for CO-OP. “We are looking forward to another year of supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, to ensure children receive the medical care they deserve.”

The local credit unions admit it’s a competitive financial climate, but they feel good to all come together to support their local CMN Hospital. It was truly a team effort.

“We are so appreciative of all that credit unions and CO-OP Financial Services have done for Hurley Children’s Hospital over the years,” said Melany Gavulic, president and CEO, Hurley Medical Center. “We are grateful that we will be able to put #SantaCares donations towards helping our youngest patients. We sincerely value the outpouring of support and love for Hurley Children’s Hospital and want to thank every single person who cared enough about these children to take the time to share our message and donate.”
