Reese’s Pieces of Joy

Reese Vargo is pure joy. The 9 year old has given up her birthday, collecting donations for the Hurley Children’s Hospital Oncology Department instead.

Reese was just 3 1/2 years old when her dad noticed a bump on her tummy during bath time. Her pediatrician sent her to Hurley for a scan, which showed Reese had a Wilms Tumor on her kidney. Reese was referred to Detroit Children’s Hospital to have the tumor removed, but it was too big. She underwent 6 weeks of chemotherapy at Hurley before having her tumor and right kidney removed. She then underwent more chemo.

Reese, her parents Laura and Drew and sisters Avery and Quinn all now give back to Hurley. For the third year in a row, Reese has raised money for Hurley for her birthday. She and her family not only donated toys this past weekend, but a check for $2000!!

Reese is cancer free today and feeling great. Her generosity is inspirational. She calls her fundraiser Reese’s Pieces of Joy and her donation will definitely bring joy to children who are now fighting cancer at Hurley Children’s Hospital. If you would like to donate in honor or Reese, we could use your help. Donate to bit.ly/SantaCares4Kids

Happy holidays and thank-you for thinking of the children who may not be able to spend this magical time at home.
