Chip Games For Hurley

EXTRA LIFE is a grass roots fundraising program sponsored by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for the purpose of raising money for local CMN hospitals. The goal? To save local kids through the power of play.

From console games to even lawn games EXTRA LIFE gamers are known for doing what they do best: helping sick and injured kids at their chosen Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. And THAT’S exactly what one special gamer has decided to do for the young patients at Hurley Children’s Hospital.

Gamer “Chip Cheezum” was first touched by the stories coming out of Flint, Michigan and the water crisis in 2016.  He knew people of all ages were being impacted but he cared especially about the kids. So he decided to do something about it.

At that time, Chip was an Associate Video Editor at Deep Silver Volition, LLC – a video gaming development company headquartered in Champagne, Illinois. His mom is an employee at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Deep Silver had participated in EXTRA LIFE in the past for a CMN Hospital close by. But Chip and his friends General Ironicus, VoidBurger, and Snugglebeast decided “Why not game on our own to help the kids in Flint?” So that’s what they did.

They set a goal of $2500. When they raised $500 in pledge money before their gaming even started, they were encouraged so they shot for a personal “best” of $5,000. Were they ever in for a surprise!!!

Thanks to their efforts and the supporters who followed their gaming as they streamed, they raised $28,390!!!

“Extra Life is something I’ve been wanting to do with my friends for a few years now, ever since I first watched No Goblin, an indie game studio in Seattle, raise money for Seattle Children’s Hospital.” Chip said. “This year was the first time I was able to get everything planned and organized, and it was clear that Flint needed help. We were shocked by how much money our fans helped us raise this year, and we’re hoping to raise even more for Hurley Children’s Hospital next year.”

And THAT is exactly what they did! In 2017, Chip and his fans from across the globe raised $31,605.90! They have funded an exam room at the Sumathi Mukkamala Children’s Center at the Flint Farmers’ Market and a teen game room on Hurley’s 11th floor.

Chip is all set to do it again starting this Sunday, September 2nd at 11am (EST) and playing for 24 hours straight. Please check him out on Twitch and support his efforts. Anyone can do the same. If your children like to game, have them sign up through Extra Life for free and turn their hobby into miracles! It’s for the Kids.
